What is the English version of the Prayer?
Hi when should I burn the piece of dough after baking challah or before start baking?
Interesting question, I was wondering the same thing. The guide I am using for making the bread says "to burn it in the oven as an offering while the other loaves are baking." Since that is the only guideline I have found at this point, that is what I will do today.
Hey Patricia! Just in case you haven’t learned this yet, in the article posted about separating challah and as she mentions in the video, you should not have anything else in the oven while you burn it. I hope this helps
The article states:
“Burn the challah by wrapping it in a piece of silver foil and placing it in the broiler, or by any other method. (If burning it inside the oven, there should be no other food baking in the oven at the same time.)”
If you’d like to look into it more, check out the Chabad article titled “How to separate challah”
When I was a young kid, way back in eastern Europe, I remember, many baked what they considered the "window" or "door" Chalach, the shape of it that is.
The old-timers than condisdered it "the door to the Eternal King".
Have not seen any since.
Any one had experienced such?
I can suppose not!
thank you
i have been taking challah for years but didn't know some of the things you taught.
it was beautifully done. video's can be so helpful.
Taking challa Very instructive but was unable to see the picture.
Weight vs Heart Thank you for demonstrating this awesome priviledge. Numbers 15 does not give a weight and it appears that we would be taking challah constantly without some weight guide ... and yet, perhaps G-d wants our heartfelt thanksgiving whenever we use the flour from our "threshing floors". I doubt HaSHem would be upset if we gave more heartfelt thanks than what was required. :-)
The exact amount is 1.666 kilo
challah one question...what is the liquid you put into the flour. I don't believe it was mentioned

Thank you! Thanks so very much for sharing this knowledge. I try to bake challah every week as do my four daughters, but not having come from an observant background, I never knew anything about these details that you shared. Knowledge is indeed power! I will now be able to fulfill the mitzvah. Thank you!
Halla, thank you so much, I am not Jewish but Judaism to me is a basis of all religions, respectfuly, Natalie

Love the show
I was confused for some time with regards “All Purpose “ flour; in the UK one needs to use Strong (high protein) flour, otherwise you’ll need to knead for a long time to develop the gluten
